Description
In this mixed media painting by Katy, she brings a unique style to her illustrations of Shakespeare’s plays, using vibrant, luminous colours reminiscent of stained glass. This scene from Act 2, Scene 2 of “Romeo and Juliet” captures the famous balcony moment with a fresh energy. The bright blues, reds, and greens light up the night, emphasizing the youthful passion and intimate exchange between the two lovers.
Juliet, dressed in a flowing red gown, leans out of her window, framed by greenery and a trellis of red roses, while an ethereal glow surrounds her. Below, Romeo gazes upward, hand on his heart, his medieval attire painted in rich, textured hues. This illustration was featured in the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre’s 1999 production of “Romeo and Juliet,” reflecting the romance and drama of the original play while celebrating Shakespeare’s timeless words through Katy’s stained glass-inspired approach.
