Description
In “Swan (i)” from her “World of Ballet” series, Katy captures the delicate grace and elegance of a ballerina in a swan-like pose. Using pen and ink combined with acrylic colour washes, Katy’s technique emphasises the fluid lines of the dancer’s form, reflecting the movement and poise characteristic of ballet. The ballerina’s tutu, adorned with intricate detailing, glistens with gold, copper, and silver acrylic relief paints, adding a subtle luminescence that enhances the sense of motion and lightness in the composition.
The textured paper used in the background provides a tactile depth that extends beyond the visual, inviting the viewer to feel the layers and details within the piece. The use of warm tones, such as gold and copper, adds warmth and richness, creating a vivid contrast with the dancer’s serene posture. The combination of line, texture, and colour highlights the dancer’s physical form, and conveys the emotional depth and artistry inherent in ballet. Through this work, Katy celebrates the physical beauty and the expressive power of dance, turning it into a dynamic, multi-sensory experience.
