The Fifth and The Last Nail, a collection of poems by Mahmud Kianush

Mahmud Kianush says

“Throughout this collection of poems, I’ve endeavoured to glimpse the essence of human existence through the lens of imagination. The conventional portrayal of humanity, and its validation by the external world, falls short in fulfilling my pursuit for a personal connection with life within the cosmos. Within these verses, I’ve depicted fleeting glimpses of my own truth.”

In All The Colours

We burn and breathe
As a cell
In the body of the Universe.

Bonfire

In such a long, cold Winter
With the deadly breath of an ice age,
What we need
Is making a bonfire
Of all our memories:

A Child Is A Poem

A child happily smiling
Without hopeful thoughts,
Or happily asleep
Without sweet dreams,

Wayward Kite

I am a kite,
Made and flown
By a lonely child.

Deer

I am a Deer;
My hunger for life
Is everlasting
As is the sun’s rapture
In burning bright.

Night

I lived to know
That whatever has a beginning
Will some time end.

Dandelions

Dandelions are also Flowers;
They shine with the image of the Sun
In the green firmament of Grass;
They are the queens of Light and Beauty,
But they live among the lowly,
Sitting on Soil,
Listening to the healing harp

The Word I Gave You

The word I gave you
Is not a blade of stone,
Nor a spear of steel,
Nor a nuclear missile.
