"O Silence of True Knowledge,"

Said I to the old tree;

"You stayed,

In the most resigned way,

On your monastic ground,

Always contented to eat soil,

Under the rain,

Under the sun,

In the passage of the wind;

But I moved on and about,

Monstrously devouring

Every fellow creature I found;

Yet, wretchedly remained

Always hungry,

Always anxious,

Always wandering!"
